African Police Officers Graduate in Rwanda

A total of 35 Senior Police officers from ten countries across the African continent received their Post-Graduate Diplomas in Strategic Leadership and Management – a programme delivered by the African Leadership University School of Business – in a memorable graduation ceremony held at the Rwanda National Police College in Ruhengeri.

The officers were from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Lesotho, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

The African Leadership University (ALU) was delighted to work in partnership with the Rwanda National Police, in providing a programme that enhances the capabilities and leadership skills of Senior Police officers and staff across Africa.

Over the course of the eight-month programme, the officers studied the fundamentals of leadership, and received practical training in how to successfully manage individuals, teams, and organisations across different levels.

Offered as part of the Police Senior Command and Staff Course, the programme was undertaken alongside a Master’s in Peace Studies and Conflict Transformation, co-delivered by the University of Rwanda and the Rwanda National Police College.

Celebrating the graduates’ achievement at the ceremony were the ALU’s Vice Chancellor and Provost, Dr Nhlanhla Thwala; its Director of Government Relations and External Affairs, Lucie Kabatesi; and Dean of the School of Business, Momar Dieng.

Dr Nhlanhla Thwala, Vice Chancellor and Provost of ALU, congratulated the class of 2023 on their graduation with the Post-Graduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Management.

I am particularly proud of this class because it is the second graduating cohort in which ALU has been involved.

This represents a furthering of our partnership with the Rwanda National Police as a whole but particularly the National Police Senior Command Program.

It is our hope that the Pan-African relationships forged in the program across the ten countries represented will be retained and even further strengthened, said Thwala.

Veda Sunasse, CEO of ALU, also congratulated each of the officers who completed their Post-Graduate programme.

Their drive to learn new skills in leadership and management will not only enhance their own capabilities as senior officials but will also inspire determination and innovation in the next generation of African leaders.

We are incredibly thankful to have delivered this programme in partnership with the Rwanda National Police, who share our mission of promoting lifelong learning, said Sunasse.

ALU is a pan-African university with a state-of-the-art campus in Kigali, Rwanda, and a college in Pamplemousses, Mauritius.

It has the vision to develop the next generation of leaders who can transform Africa and the world and aims to develop 3 million ethical and entrepreneurial African leaders by 2035.
