Ambassador Walusimbi calls for export, tourism promotion in Canada



Ambassador Walusimbi has held a strategic meeting with the Uganda High Commission in Ottawa, as part of his working visit to Canada, where he hailed the strong and growing ties between Uganda and Canada.

The Ambassador who was representing the leader of Uganda's delegation to Canada, 3rd Deputy Premier, Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama, said the recently concluded 2nd Canada NRM Chapter Symposium was a prime example of the accelerated collaboration between the two countries.

He also thanked and commended the Embassy staff for their hard work and commitment and dedication to offer ugandans living and working in Canada world-class services.

On her part, Uganda's High Commissioner to Canada, Ambassador Joy Ruth Acheng, highlighted Uganda-Canada areas of cooperation, including in the trade, tourism, investment, education, innovation, space, and climate change, while also recognising robust people-to-people ties and institutional partnerships between the two countries. Furthermore, she revealed that the Embassy is willing to guide Ugandans interested in exportation of Ugandan products.

Deputy High Commissioner, Ambassador Allan Kajik, lauded the strategic meeting aimed at bolstering economic ties,  adding that there is growing export-import capacity. He also disclosed his excitement, for it was his first official meeting, since his recent appointment.

Ndyomugyenyi Sandra, who led a team from State House, Uganda, noted that government looks forward to continue supporting the Embassy, in order to promote shared goals.

The meeting also deliberated on different modalities of preparing for the 3rd Canada NRM Chapter Symposium, with the tentative committee considering to hold it Ottawa. They also suggested an exhibition, to have more of Uganda products displayed for marketing purposes. 

On top of that, Ambasador Walusimbi was tasked with sourcing for funds, to establish NRM diaspora structure in Canada, in a bid to mobilise members, and tighten party ties.

Additionally, Ugandan professionals based in Canada requested to meet with H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in order to forge a path of knowledge and technological transfer.

Mahad Yusuf, who runs one of the Youth Organizations in Canada, proposed a Youth conference, which will take place early 2024 in Uganda. 

The workshop will attract inspiring speakers, and breakout sessions focused on incredible & unparalleled networking opportunities, new contacts, and collected solid leads, that will convert into valuable business relationships for the youth in Uganda.

The meeting also had in attendance Ambassador Hellen Kasozi.

Basajja commits to revamping Kansanga health facilities

29 January 2024 City Mogul, Hassan Basajjabalaba, has pledged to revamp and support health facilities around Kansanga township a suburb in Kampala City. He has committed to support mostly maternal health care. Basajjabalaba, a renowned businessman and  proprietor of Kampala International University (KIU)  said while touring the facilities in Kansanga that the increasing rate of maternal mortality in Uganda has raised questions about what this means for society and beyond. “My main reason for this tour is to check on the situation here. The rate of maternal mortality is alarming. We need to save the mothers of the nation,” he said. Uganda receives first batch of crude line pipes

BY PAUL TENTENA Another milestone in the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) has been reached with the first delivery of nine trucks loaded with coated line pipes at Main Camp and Pipe Yard (MCPY) 4 in Kyotera District, Uganda. The coated line pipes will be transported to designated storage sites and laid along the 1,443-kilometer heat-traced crude oil pipeline.  The EACOP will transport Uganda's crude oil from the Hoima Terminal in Uganda to Tanga Port in Tanzania, where it will be exported to international markets. To date, the project has received 800 kilometres of line pipes, which are currently undergoing coating and insulation at the Nzega Coating Yard in Tanzania.
