ICPAU Introduces Membership Masterclass for Holders of Foreign Accountancy Qualifications

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has introduced a masterclass for holders of Foreign Accountancy Qualifications (FAQs).

The aim is to simplify the full membership enrolment process for FAQ holders so that they can reap the full benefits of being Certified Public Accountants (CPAs).

FAQs refer to foreign accountancy qualifications obtained from outside the East African Community. They include but are not limited to the Chartered Management Global Accountant (CGMA), Chartered Accountant (CA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualifications.

To qualify for enrolment as full members of ICPAU holders of FAQs are required to study some papers of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) course, such as Business & Company Law, Public Financial Management, Audit Practice & Assurance and Advanced Taxation.

With the masterclass, holders of FAQs will take a one-week class after which they will write examinations and qualify for membership enrolment.

"We recognise the importance of providing a seamless pathway for FAQ holders to become integral members of the global community of CPAs” said CPA Derick Nkajja.

“This is for compliance purposes and also to unlock the benefits of affiliation with the national Professional Accountancy Organisation,” he added.

Among other benefits, members of ICPAU enjoy an enhanced professional profile with the CPA professional designation, eligibility for leadership opportunities on the ICPAU Council and global advisory boards, the right to vote at the CPAs’ Annual General Meetings, eligibility for accountancy practice, enhanced credibility for C-Suite positions, abundant opportunities for networking and career advancement, and a compliance record as members in good standing.

Additionally, becoming a Certified Public Accountant makes one compliant with the laws of Uganda. The Accountants Act, 2013 defines an accountant as one who is a member of ICPAU. Furthermore, the Accountants Act ringfences senior positions in public interest entities for CPAs – Section 34 (2).

The masterclass will run from 22 – 26 July 2024 and it will be offered to holders of Foreign

Accountancy Qualifications who completed their FAQ studies by the end of 2013. Registration is in progress at www.icpau.co.ug.
