UBUNTU rebrands to TowerCo of Africa Uganda



Ubuntu Towers Uganda has announced the successful completion of its rebranding to TowerCo of Africa Uganda, which is 90% owned by TowerCo of Africa (TOA), a fully owned subsidiary of AXIAN Telecom.

Under a new identity, the company forges ahead with its journey towards redefining connectivity in Uganda.

 Geoffrey Donnels Oketayot, CEO at TowerCo of Africa Uganda, said they are thrilled to officially unveil TowerCo of Africa Uganda and embark on an exciting next chapter in what has been a very fulfilling journey.

“Our rebranding represents a transfer of the positive legacy from Ubuntu Towers to the TowerCo of Africa brand.

“It also marks an important milestone in our evolution, which is punctuated by our ambition to be the best green passive infrastructure solutions provider in Uganda," said Oketayot.

At a celebratory event graced by the Uganda State Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Joyce Juliet Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, and other dignitaries as well as business leaders, the TowerCo of Africa Uganda team reflected on the market impact the company has had since it was founded in 2020.

They thanked the partners who have been instrumental in accelerating the benefits realised by the Ugandan people.

"We are immensely grateful for the support of our employees, customers, business partners, industry bodies and government in helping to shape the socio-economic impact of TowerCo of Africa Uganda.

“We remain committed to delivering exceptional telecommunications solutions that catapult communities, businesses, and the economy towards meaningful growth," said Oketayot.

Committed to sustainable and responsible development, TowerCo of Africa Uganda has rolled out towers across approximately 360 sites - nearly all of them equipped with hybrid energy solutions - and expects this number to grow significantly in the coming years.

Stephane Beuvelet, CEO of TowerCo of Africa, said TowerCo of Africa's infrastructure investments are contributing to various sectors such as education, e-health, e-farming, logistics, and transport - amongst others.

TowerCo of Africa Uganda will continue to be run by its highly experienced management team, including the co-founders Geoffrey Donnels Oketayot (CEO), George Ssamula (CLO), and Ronald Onzia (COO), Mark Otai (CFO) and Harold Luzinda (CCO) – who collectively have over 25 years of experience in different fields, including engineering, business, operations management, and law.

With a visionary leadership team at the helm, TowerCo of Africa Uganda is poised to shape the future of sustainable passive telecoms infrastructure and drive Uganda's ascent as a trailblazer in the digital age.

Uganda receives first batch of crude line pipes

BY PAUL TENTENA Another milestone in the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) has been reached with the first delivery of nine trucks loaded with coated line pipes at Main Camp and Pipe Yard (MCPY) 4 in Kyotera District, Uganda. The coated line pipes will be transported to designated storage sites and laid along the 1,443-kilometer heat-traced crude oil pipeline.  The EACOP will transport Uganda's crude oil from the Hoima Terminal in Uganda to Tanga Port in Tanzania, where it will be exported to international markets. To date, the project has received 800 kilometres of line pipes, which are currently undergoing coating and insulation at the Nzega Coating Yard in Tanzania. United Nations disagrees with Uganda military law

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker  T ürk has expressed concern at the passing in Uganda’s Parliament of proposed legislation to allow for civilians to be tried in military courts.   The Uganda People’s Defence Forces Amendment Bill 2025, which was passed on 20 May and now awaits presidential signature to become law, among others broadens the jurisdiction of military courts, authorising them to try a wide range of offences against civilians.   “I am concerned that rather than encouraging efforts to implement the Supreme Court’s crystal-clear decision of January this year, Uganda’s legislators have voted to reinstate and broaden military court’s jurisdiction to try civilians, which would contravene international human rights law obligations,” said Türk.   “I respectfully urge President Museveni to reject the retrogressive bill and take the necessary steps to comply fully and promptly with the Supreme Court’s decision.”   The trial of civilians by milita...
