SGA SECURITY UGANDA ADVOCATES FIGHTING AGAINST BREAST CANCER

SGA Security Uganda this year celebrated their customer service week in a unique way by organizing a breast cancer advocacy in partnership with Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organization (UWOCASO).

This is in line with both companies’ desire to come together to change and impact lives.

Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organization is an NGO that was started in 2004 by breast cancer survivors in a mission to fight cancer in Uganda through empowering women at risk of and/ or are living with the cancer.

The organization also helps in empowering families and communities through providing appropriate and evidence-based information and practices, awareness, supportive care, and advocacy.

Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, by the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past 5 years, making it the world’s most prevalent cancer.

In Uganda, breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer. According to the Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organisation (UWOCASO), over 75% of breast cancer patients in the region present with late stages of the disease.

SGA Security Uganda took the opportunity to encourage women to go for early breast cancer screening which will allow them to know about their health and in the event that one has the cancer, they can start treatment early.

Early detection of the cancer helps in early treatment and management therefore leading to low mortality rate. SGA Security Uganda has been an advocate of safety and quick response, and this has been portrayed by their encouragement to women to be safe and go for early screening.

This year’s Breast Cancer Awareness month’s theme is Thrive365, encouraging individuals to live fully, which SGA Security Uganda and UWOCASO communicated through sharing hope and encouraging the affected that they could survive and live a full life. SGA Security Uganda called for people to come together and help fight breast cancer.

As part of their CSR initiatives anchored on healthcare and health & safety, SGA Security Uganda contributes annually to the Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organization which in turn helps in the NGOs efforts towards helping women and families of those affected by breast cancer.

In their annual customer service week celebrations, SGA Security Uganda normally has the NGO come and sensitize staff about cancer as part of their efforts in bringing value to their employees and encouraging healthy living.
